Ok girls, here’s my top 10 feel good chick flicks!
First up is the classic
Mean Girls. Perhaps one of the most quoted films in this history of films. I on many occasions have used a Mean Girls quote in social situations. ‘You can’t sit with us’ or ‘I want my pink shirt back’ are up there on my list of most used quotes. What makes mean girls so good is the whole high school idea, having the rise and fall of a new Queen Bee is what makes it so catchy. With the perfect cast mean girls, this comedy is hard not to like. In fact growing up, i don’t think i knew a girl who didn’t like Mean Girls.
Carrying on with the whole High School setting we have my next favourite
John Tucker must die. This film tells the tale of the most popular girls in school, teaming together with the new girl on campus to take down their cheating boyfriend John Tucker. It’s a cheesy and predictable story of how the girls work together to make their perfect yet two-timing guy fall head over heals in love, then break his heart, in the most humiliating way, making him feel as low as he made them. Naturally this film isn’t serious or realistic, but that is what makes it SO GOOD! Plus Jesse Metcalfe and Brittany Snow play the leads so the cast is beautiful and you could watch for that reason alone!
Next up are two of my favourite chick flicks i went to when i was growing up!
Number one: Princess Diaries. Princess diaries takes Mia the teenager and tells her she is actually the heir to the throne of Genovia. Mia isn’t exactly what you would call regal and we see her have to grow up, fix up and step up to be the princess Genovia needs. Growing up i thought Mia was hilarious and Julie Andrews plays the Grandmother (Queen) we all want.
Number two: The Lizzie McGuire Movie. I LOVED the Lizzie McGuire movie, perhaps because i watched Lizzie Mcguire so much growing up when a film came out that i could watch over and over I WAS IN. Also my knowledge of travelling was minimal so seeing an american go on vacation to Rome, i wanted to be her. Then she gets mistaken for an incredible singer and gets to perform on stage with her new found boyfriend. Swoon. It’s a teenagers dream.
Perhaps my most recent favourite chick flick is Trainwreck.
Trainwreck is incredibly funny, yet incredibly humbling. Amy Schumer plays the girl who doesn’t want to be tied down as ‘monogamy isn’t realistic’ change into the girl who is ready to start taking her life ‘seriously’ and commit to someone who actually likes her. Trainwreck has some of the funniest scenes i have ever seen but it is not just a joke after joke based movie. At the heart of this movie is love and more importantly self love.
Moving on to a classic love film we have;
Pretty woman. Insert *ahhhh* noise here. In this film we see Julia Roberts much like Schumer in Trainwreck, find real love, however this one has a completely different tone attached. After years of being a hooker, Vivian is picked up by an extremely wealthy guy and they fall madly in love together. They carry on their lives side by side and the comparison of these two different worlds colliding is what makes both characters charming and that is how a beautiful story is created.
Perhaps one of the funniest chick flicks to be released is Bridesmaids. With an all star comedy line up, this film is full of funny ladies! Again, based on love this one shows us the bridesmaids build up to the big day! From the engagement to the big day to the honeymoon we are swept up into a crazy battle between two wanabee bridesmaids, a highly strung bride and a collection of bridesmaids who couldn’t be more opposite!
Next, Miss Congeniality, Sandra Bullock perfectly plays the kick ass cop come beauty queen. This chick flick shows how you can be anything you want to be (or not want to be) in her case! Through hard work and determination she nearly wins a pageant and saves the girls! YES QUEEN!
My final two are
Coyote Ugly, one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITE FILMS. Violet heads to New York to become a songwriter, after finding the worst apartment NY has to offer she realises she has to get a job and ends up working at the Coyote Ugly bar. Far out of her comfort zone she ends up becoming a person she never thought she could be. Much to many of her peers disapproval this new outgoing exterior eventually lands her her dream career.
Finally i end with
The Other Woman, A wife and two mistresses all find out they are being played by the same guy. Much like in John tucker must die. This films shows women getting revenge and their mishaps along the way. Actually, come to think about it The Other Woman is like a grown ups version of John Tucker Must Die, just brought up an age class and into the 21st century. This feel good film, will make you feel good about being a woman and as if you can take down any guy who has upset you. You go ladies!!!
Anyway, they are just some of my personal favourites! Let me know if you have any more to add!
